Product Overview

These informational/educational Whale baleen cards are a true piece of history in the making. They make a great starting basis for classroom projects, show and tell or just sharing with your friends.

Alaskan coastal Natives have harvested whales, seals, and other earthly resources for thousands of years to sustain themselves in a very harsh and unforgiving environment. Today this necessary practice continues under government agreement with quotas. It is not only their way of life, it is their lifeline. Many villages do not have modern conveniences such as electricity and running water. These amenities if even possible, are a very difficult, dangerous, and costly venture.

Alaskan native tradition is to live in harmony with the land and have a great respect for it. They give thanks for the bounty provided by the earth and pay special attention to making use of all that they can of that gift. These cards are a part of this philosophy, scraps and bits of baleen left over from other uses are used to provide revenue to help sustain themselves and to bring awareness to the culture and traditions.

Samples will vary with each card in reference to, size, shapes, and quantity. These cards are sold for their educational and historical value only.
