Product Overview

These informational/educational Mammoth cards are a true piece of history! They make a great starting basis for classroom projects, show and tell or just sharing with your friends.

While building a road to the remote town of Fox, Alaska it was discovered that Mammoth bones were being uncovered by the equipment. The decision was made to sift this large amount of tailings to separate the bone and Ivory shards and these cards are the result. Though the attached sample contains both bone and ivory, there will be mostly bone. These enormous Mammals could grow to be up to 13 feet long/tall and weigh five to seven tons, therefore the ratio of bone to Ivory would be negligible. Samples will vary with each card in reference to, size, color, shapes, and quantity. These cards are sold for their educational and historical value only.

By the end of the last Ice Age, about 10,000 years ago, pretty much all the world's Mammoths had succumbed to climate change and human predation. The exception to this was a small population of Woolly Mammoths that lived on Wrangel Island. Which today is part of Alaska, off the coast of Siberia, where they lived until 1700 B.C, an additional 4,000 years on a relative small island. As such they developed smaller body mass as they adapted to their environment.

These samples being from mainland Alaska, are 10,000 years old and truly are a piece of pre-history!
